Abuse is defined by the federal government as “the willful infliction of injury, unreasonable confinement, intimidation or punishment with resulting physical harm, pain or mental anguish. Abuse also includes the deprivation by an individual, including a caretaker, of goods or services that are necessary to attain or maintain physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.” According to Medicare, 63 of Missouri’s nursing homes (12%) have been cited by investigators as having abused at least one resident. These statistics may shock you, but unfortunately, this is a very real reality many nursing home residents face. 

Further, an AARP article noted that Missouri’s Nursing Home Quality is ranked 48th, and Nursing Home Staffing Levels were ranked 46^th. It’s clear that Missouri is one of the worst states for seniors to receive nursing home care. This data reinforces the importance of advocating for your loved ones who have suffered in a Missouri nursing home and emphasizes the need to continue to hold nursing homes accountable for their actions. 

The low ratings for nursing home care in Missouri highlights a significant problem with the care that is being given state-wide. Sadly, the City of St. Louis follows the same pattern of poorly rated facilities.
